Young Driver Insurance Las Vegas Nevada NV

Filed under: SR22 Las Vegas NV, Teen insurance Las Vegas, Teenager insurance — maricar @ 1:13 am

Reader’s Question:

I just obtained my valid MA Learners permit recently. My mother lives in Las Vegas Nevada and I am planning to visit her often. Can I drive using my MA learner’s Permit in Nevada? If so what are the restrictions for this?

Smith

Las Vegas, NV

Here are the driving restrictions for teens in the state of Nevada:

  • Young drivers may not transport any person under the age of eighteen, except for immediate family members, for the first 6 months after the license was issued.
  • Young Drivers under eighteen may not operate the vehicle between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This applies to all motorists under the age of eighteen until they turn eighteen, regardless of when the license was issued.
  • Nevada has a .02 blood alcohol limit for motorists under twenty one.
  • Young driver licenses can be suspended for any of the same reasons as adult licenses and also for non-driving alcohol/drug offenses, habitual truancy or firearms violations.

So it seems like you can drive in the state of Nevada with your MA learner’s permit but with restrictions. I would suggest that you contact the Nevada DMV to find out for sure if all the restrictions and conditions you will have on you while in Nevada visiting your mother in Las Vegas Nevada.

Teen Insurance Help Las Vegas, Nevada NV

Filed under: Teen insurance Las Vegas — maricar @ 11:22 am

Reader’s Question:

I would like to include my teenager in our auto insurance policy in Las Vegas. What are the essential things I need to know?

Cris

Las Vegas, NV

Most auto insurance companies would rate teenagers as high risk drivers, regardless of their skill in driving. Since teenage drivers are very young, they can be very inexperienced which would make them very prone to accidents.

However, you never run out of options in helping your teenager get discounts on auto insurance premiums, as theirs can be normally expensive.

First and very essential, you need to inform your teenager of the dangers of reckless driving. They need to understand that driving is a privilege, and not a right, that can legally be taken away by you or the government. It is very important that by awareness, you save your child and yourself from their reckless driving before it hurts somebody or causes significant damages.
Make your teenage driver fully aware that their actions can result in the premiums becoming more expensive. For every ticket and accident, there could be a corresponding increase in auto insurance premiums.

Most auto insurance companies offer families a young driver’s safety program which can be attended by the parents of the teenager too. You can talk to your local agent in Nevada for more details on this program and other pertinent information on how you can avail of teenage driver discount.

Las Vegas NV Teen Car Insurance

Filed under: SR22 Las Vegas NV, Teen insurance Las Vegas, Teenager insurance — maricar @ 9:19 am

Reader’s Question:

Hello. I am 18 years old and just obtained my G2 in Las Vegas. I was wondering if I can drive my friend’s car or my parent’s car that is insured without me being insured in?

Paul

Las Vegas, NV

With your G2 most insurance providers in Las Vegas will require you to be listed to your parent’s insurance policy since you are part of their household and now have more driving responsibilities with fewer restrictions while operating your parent’s cars.

If your parents do not notify the insurance provider in Las Vegas of your G2 licensing status then it is likely that you will not be properly covered if you were to get involved in an accident in your parent’s car. As for driving a friend’s car, the owner of the vehicle is typically responsible for anyone who operates their vehicle with permission so your friend will need to check with their insurance company to verify if you would be covered to drive their vehicle.

Your friend will need to keep in mind that if you are covered by their insurance company and you have an at-fault accident while driving their vehicle, it will go on their insurance record and your friend will get his/her insurance premium affected. Insurance does not follow the motorist; it goes with the vehicle.

Ray

Las Vegas, NV

Reader’s Question:

My license was suspended in Las Vegas, Nevada and I have not cleared it up yet. Can I obtain a driver’s license in Texas for work?

Sharon

Las Vegas, NV

According to the Nevada DMV, all US states have access to the National Drivers Register (NDR), which is a database of problems motorist. They define problem motorist for this registry as those who have offenses for major traffic violations or whose motorist’s license has been suspended, revoked, canceled, denied.

According to the NV DMV no state may issue a motorist license if there is an active revocation or revocation in any other state. Therefore, if your license has been suspended in Las Vegas Nevada and you have yet to clear up those issues and have your NV license reinstated then you will be unable to receive a Texas state license.

You will have to obtain your Las Vegas Nevada driving privileges reinstated, and any issues cleared up, before another state will permit you to get a full license.

Reader’s Question:

Am I required to insure my golf cart. I live in Las Vegas, NV.

John

Las Vegas, NV

There are some certain areas of Nevada that would require insurance on golf carts.According to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles states that golf carts may be operated in residential developments where the appropriate city or county government has approved their use.

Certain developments in Clark County where carts are used as general transportation are required to have a DMV permit and insurance.Since Las Vegas is located within Clark County it seems that you may be required to have a DMV permit and insurance depending upon if your golf car is used for general transportation and the local of your housing development.

It is the responsibility of the owner of golf cart to know what roads are designated as permissible for the operation of golf carts.

Reader’s Question:

I am only 17 and I just got my license just last week. I received a speeding ticket for doing 55 in a 45 zone. How much are my insurance rates going to jump because of this violation and for how long? I got the reduced rate for attending driving school from my insurance company and I do have the good student discount. I live in Las Vegas Nevada.

Brad

Las Vegas, NV

Each insurance company handles insurance points differently. The car insurance company uses a point system under which assigns their individual values to each type of traffic infractions and accident claim. Chances are the insurance providers will not assign a higher rate for that minor traffic infraction. But, this violation may force your insurance carrier to remove any “safe driver” discount that applies to your insurance policy. The length of time that this violation will affect your insurance rate depends upon your insurance carrier. Some insurance companies verify the last 3 years of your motor vehicle report. Some use the last 5 years, and some even use the last 7 years.

Reader’s Question:

How will accident increase my insurance premiums?

Cecille

Thank you for asking Cecille.

The state of Nevada requires all registered motor vehicles to be covered with a minimum liability insurance coverage of

$15,000 for bodily injury or death of one person in any one accident
$30,000 for bodily injury or death of 2 or more persons on any one accident; and
$10,000 for damage or destruction of property of others in anyone accident is mandated.

This coverage must be reported by an insurance providers authorized to do business in the state of Nevada.

From this Department Of Insurance information it would seems that insurance providers in Nevada can rate on accidents for a period of 3 to 5 years. Reader’s Question:

I just want to know if it is true that insurance rate is higher in the state of Nevada for drivers older than 60 years old?

Cheska

Thank you for asking Cheska.

Some insurance companies charge higher rates for drivers who are over a certain age, such as 75 if state laws allow. The reason for this is that risk analysis and statistics show that reaction times, vision, etc is worse for elderly drivers. Since age is a factor for rating insurance rates that most states allow the age of the driver can cause rates to rise, some insurance providers will not insure any driver over 75.

Some insurance providers offer lower rates to those between 50 and 65 years of age. This group usually has lower accident rates. Typically, after age 65 rates begin rising again though and individuals over age 70 may have difficulty finding an insurance companies that will accept them since accidents for this age group tend to increase.

There are some car insurance companies that give driver discounts for drivers of a certain age with a good driving records or discounts to seniors who attend an approved driving course.

Goodluck!
