How long does an accident affect your insurance rates in Las Vegas Nevada?

Ray

As part of the rating system and to provide you an accurate Las Vegas quote for your insurance rate the Division of Insurance permits insurance carriers to request information on the description of your car, its use, your motorist license number, number and ages of motorist in your household, the coverage and limits you want and what tickets and accidents you have had in the last 3 to five years.

The length of time that the accident will affect your insurance rates will likely depends on the type of accident you were in and your individual insurance provider’s rating system. You should be able to verify the rating system from your broker or from contacting the NV DOI since Las Vegas insurance companies file their rates with this state agency.

Reader’s Question:

I just want to know if it is true that insurance rate is higher in the state of Nevada for drivers older than 60 years old? Which companies would be the best for me to get quotes from?

Cheska

Thank you for asking Cheska.

Some insurance companies charge higher rates for drivers who are over a certain age, such as 75 if state laws allow. The reason for this is that risk analysis and statistics show that reaction times, vision, etc is worse for elderly drivers. Since age is a factor for rating insurance rates that most states allow the age of the driver can cause rates to rise, some insurance providers will not insure any driver over 75.

Some insurance providers offer lower rates to those between 50 and 65 years of age. This group usually has lower accident rates. Typically, after age 65 rates begin rising again though and individuals over age 70 may have difficulty finding an insurance companies that will accept them since accidents for this age group tend to increase.

There are some car insurance companies that give driver discounts for drivers of a certain age with a good driving records or discounts to seniors who attend an approved driving course.

The state insurance laws govern what factors an insurance provider can rate a person using and then an insurance carriers have their own rating systems. Reader’s Question:

I would like to include my teenager in our auto insurance policy in Las Vegas. What are the essential things I need to know?

Cris

Las Vegas, NV

Most auto insurance companies would rate teenagers as high risk drivers, regardless of their skill in driving. Since teenage drivers are very young, they can be very inexperienced which would make them very prone to accidents.

However, you never run out of options in helping your teenager get discounts on auto insurance premiums, as theirs can be normally expensive.

First and very essential, you need to inform your teenager of the dangers of reckless driving. They need to understand that driving is a privilege, and not a right, that can legally be taken away by you or the government. It is very important that by awareness, you save your child and yourself from their reckless driving before it hurts somebody or causes significant damages.
Make your teenage driver fully aware that their actions can result in the premiums becoming more expensive. For every ticket and accident, there could be a corresponding increase in auto insurance premiums.

Most auto insurance companies offer families a young driver’s safety program which can be attended by the parents of the teenager too. You can talk to your local agent in Nevada for more details on this program and other pertinent information on how you can avail of teenage driver discount.
