Las Vegas Car Insurance Companies
Reader’s Question:
I just want to know if it is true that insurance rate is higher in the state of Nevada for drivers older than 60 years old? Which companies would be the best for me to get quotes from?
Cheska
Thank you for asking Cheska.
Some insurance companies charge higher rates for drivers who are over a certain age, such as 75 if state laws allow. The reason for this is that risk analysis and statistics show that reaction times, vision, etc is worse for elderly drivers. Since age is a factor for rating insurance rates that most states allow the age of the driver can cause rates to rise, some insurance providers will not insure any driver over 75.
Some insurance providers offer lower rates to those between 50 and 65 years of age. This group usually has lower accident rates. Typically, after age 65 rates begin rising again though and individuals over age 70 may have difficulty finding an insurance companies that will accept them since accidents for this age group tend to increase.
There are some car insurance companies that give driver discounts for drivers of a certain age with a good driving records or discounts to seniors who attend an approved driving course.
Goodluck!

Bad Driver and High Risk Car Insurance in Nevada
Reader’s Question:
Will my husband’s bad driving record here in Las Vegas Nevada affect my car insurance record? How much more should I expect to pay for his crappy driving record and which car insurance companies are more willing to work with him and give us good rates?
Barbara
Las Vegas, NV
Yes, your car insurance record can be affected by your husband’s driving record. Car insurance companies track the driving record of any licensed driver in your household. This can affect the decision of the car insurance provider when you try to apply for an insurance coverage for your own vehicle.
Car insurance companies can also deny the renewal of your policy based on the negative driving record of your husband. Worse, a car insurance company can decide to revoke or completely cancel your coverage if your husband does not have a spotless driving record.
Your premiums can also be affected especially if your husband is listed under your policy. Insurers view drivers with bad driving records as high-risk, thus the possibility of filing a claim is higher. Though your husband can take certified defensive driving course in Nevada for ticket dismissal if he is cited so as to avoid marring both your records, this course can only be taken once in any twelve-month period and can only remove one ticket. Also, this course can only be taken up to a maximum of five times. Inform your husband that his bad driving record will ultimately affect your car insurance and hope that he will work on improving his driving record.
Auto Insurance Laws in Nevada – Do I Have to Show Car Title?
Reader’s Question:
Hi, I need to know if there really is a special law here in Nevada wherein I would have to show the title of my car in order for me to get my car insured.
Brenda Johnson
Las Vegas, NV
Insurance companies do not necessarily require you to show the title of your car but they may require you to show that you have insurable interest (Exists when an individual would suffer an economic loss as the result of damage to property or bodily injury.) Many people do not have the car’s title since we have vehicle loans and leases which would be under lien holders who hold on to the vehicle’s title until they pay it off.
The guidelines for insurance companies vary, but in general if you apply for automobile insurance in any insurance company, the information you need to bring will always be the same no matter where you are, (including Las Vegas, Nevada.) Commonly, the items are Driver’s License Numbers for all drivers, Social Security Numbers for all drivers (if applicable), and Credit card and checking account information (if applicable). You will need to answer general questions and some information regarding the other drivers that may be driving your vehicle, the regular passengers of your vehicle, your history on any violations, the type of coverage you want to get, and the account setup.
Car insurance companies will usually ask for your vehicle’s current registration as proof. It would help to prove that you have insurable interest in your car with the registration. Having an insurable interest in something means that loss or damage to it would cause one to suffer a financial loss.
